INSPIRING TRUST
Systems
Trust account
All funds are held in a solicitors trust account with Westpac Bank (one of the main New Zealand banks). We use Junior Partner trust-accounting software to manage our trust account.
Software and trust account management
In common with all lawyers with trust accounts in New Zealand, we must comply with New Zealand Law Society rules. This includes completing monthly trust account certificates for the NZLS.
Insurance
Our professional indemnity insurance is held with Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company. Our cover comprises $2,000,000.00 for any one claim and $5,000,000.00 in the annual aggregate, and defence costs are paid in addition to the limit of indemnity (our broker is Willis Insurance Brokers).
Our People
David Wilding is the Principal Lawyer for Wilding Law.
I was admitted to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2001.
My commercial legal work includes creating commercial structures such as Limited Partnerships and companies, and the underlying constitutional documents. We assist with buying and selling businesses, large-scale irrigation development, farm sales & purchases, and work relating to Trusts.
I hold two degrees from two universities:
I am passionate about commercial negotiation. I use up-to-date techniques and encourage my customers to prepare correctly and negotiate fearlessly. I pursue a great result for my customer by keeping my customer’s authentic and aspirational best-case goal as the minimum benchmark. I believe the hallmarks of a negotiator are the same in any field: to be authentic and fearless, to leave no hostage behind, and to pay no ransom.
I understand good governance of organisations and the processes needed to achieve that. I have served on several voluntary boards including the Board of Trustees of Fendalton Open Air School, and the Board of Canterbury Water Polo Inc.
The fee I charge will represent an excellent return on investment for you, and equitable compensation for me. I charge a fee based on my contribution to the value and the results achieved, the resources of time and expertise used, risk, the importance, and the urgency.

Software and trust account management
- To ensure the highest standards of prudential management and compliance for our trust account, we use Legal Accounting Bureau Limited (managing director Kathy Kell) to manage our trust account compliance and accounting on Junior Partner.
- Our IT systems all operate on “Smartcloud” which means that all our data is instantaneously maintained and remotely stored offsite at servers in Christchurch NZ, and also automatically backed-up on a daily basis to a North Island location in New Zealand.
- We use the latest versions of Microsoft programmes which are updated on a continuous basis by our IT firm.
In common with all lawyers with trust accounts in New Zealand, we must comply with New Zealand Law Society rules. This includes completing monthly trust account certificates for the NZLS.
